Measuring Guide

When measuring for curtains you should always measure your track or pole, not the window. It is therefore important to have your track or pole already added.

The track or pole should extend 15cm to 3 cm either side of the window to allow for the curtains to be opened properly without obscuring too much of the window. Please note that all values in this guide are approximate. Please take care to measure correctly.

Measuring for Curtain Width

When measuring your curtain width, it is vital that you measure the curtain pole or track, not the actual window or recess. If you intend to fit a new track or pole, then please ensure at least an extra 7 - 15cm above the window recess where possible. For the overlap with the wall at the sides, please leave 10 - 15cm where possible.

Always measure the curtain track or pole width, not the window. If fitting a new track or pole, this should extend 15cm to 30cm either side of the window (to allow the curtains to be stacked back off the window) and 12cm to 15cm above the window recess.

Measuring for Curtain Drop

Curtains are best hung either to the floor or below the sill. Some people also like the look of curtains ending exactly on the top of the sill (C). We recommend that curtains finish either 1cm above the floor (or a little below the sill (anywhere between 7 - 20cm below the sill ).

Measure from 1 or 2 cm above the track or pole to either the floor or to 10 - 20cm below the sill.

Always measure in at least 3 positions across the track or pole as floors and sills may not be level. To avoid curtains dragging across the floor we recommend you use the shortest of these 3 measurements.

Different Headings

Pencil Pleat Heading

When using a curtain track, measure from a couple of centimetres above the track to where the curtain is to finish. When using a curtain pole, measure from the underside of the decorative ring to where you want the curtain to finish.

Eyelet Heading

The eyelet will fit poles up to 30mm in diameter. The inner edge of the eyelet is set down 2 or 3cm from the top of the curtain, so please allow for this in your measurements as the extra materiel is counted as part of the drop. Measure from the top of the pole to where you want the curtains to finish and add 3cm.
